The Native Village of Selawik is an Inupiat community in northwest Alaska that consists of around 850 residents. Known as Akuligaq in Inupiaq, Selawik is about four miles north of the Arctic Circle and 70 miles east of the town of Kotzebue.
In 2012, the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium published a report titled “Climate Change in Selawik: Strategies for Community Health” which highlighted the impacts of climate change on Selawik, developed strategies focused on community health, and highlighted principles for integrating climate change planning into local decision-making.
