Native Village of Newtok

The Native Village of Newtok (Niuqtaq in Yup’ik) is a coastal Yup’ik village on the Ninglick River in what is now present-day western Alaska made up of around 350 people.

The community of Newtok has been focused on climate change issues for years, and in 2011, issued the report, Relocation Report: Newtok to Mertarvik, which highlights potential plans to move the village to a new location due to sea level rise.
